Two partner organizations of our consortium (UMBC and OTH Regensburg) participated in ASME’s Premier Conference on Smart Materials, Adaptive Structures, and Intelligent Systems (SMASIS 2024) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Prof. Paris von Lockette (UMBC) was the Chair of the Symposium “Mechanics & Behavior of Active Materials”, co-chaired a session on “Structure and Performance of Shape Memory Polymer Actuators”, and co-authored 3 oral presentations with his PhD students.

Prof. Mikhail Chamonine (OTH) has given a talk “Transient Magnetostriction of Magneto-Active Elastomeric Cylinders” and co-chaired a session on “Performance of Magneto- and Electro-Responsive Energetic, Alloy, and Composite Materials” together with a PhD student from Regensburg, Mr. Raphael Kriegl. This was the first experience of Mr. Kriegl as a chairperson in a scientific conference and he mastered this task with confidence. Well done, Raphael!  Mr. Kriegl has also delivered a talk “Characterization of Tunable Rebound Properties of Micro-Structured Magnetoactive Elastomers”. This work was performed in collaboration with another MAESTRI partner  – University of Ljubljana (Prof. Irena Drevenšek – Olenik, Prof. Matija Jezeršek with their co-workers). There were several questions to our presenters in the specialist sessions, what indicates an interest in the subject of our Doctoral Network.  Next SMASIS conference is planned in St. Louis in September 2025.
