From 2-3 July 2026, the MAESTRI consortium held the in-person part of its 3rd Doctoral Training School (DTS3) in Vienna, Austria. Building on the online sessions held earlier in the year, the event provided an intensive programme of scientific lectures, hands-on learning, and networking opportunities for MAESTRI doctoral candidates.
This edition of DTS3 focused on Digital Twins for Magnetic Soft Matter, covering topics such as finite element methods, multiphysics simulations, and computational modelling for magnetoactive materials. Alongside the scientific programme, participants engaged in discussions on their research progress and exchanged ideas across the different work packages of the MAESTRI Doctoral Network.
A particular highlight of this year’s training school was the participation of external doctoral researchers, who joined the MAESTRI fellows in this training. Their participation enriched the discussions, encouraged new collaborations, and further strengthened the exchange of knowledge between the MAESTRI consortium and the wider scientific community.
By combining high-quality scientific training with opportunities for networking and collaboration, DTS3 once again demonstrated MAESTRI’s commitment to educating the next generation of researchers in magnetic soft matter and advanced functional materials.
